Sara la kali

Sara la kali, or Saint Sarah, is the patron saint of the Romani people. She is venerated in Les-Saintes-Maries-De-La-Mer in the Camargue region of Southern France. She shares her name with the Hindu goddess Kali.

Legend presents her as a very young woman who arrived in Gaul on a boat with “The Three Maries” around 42 AD as a black Egyptian maid or as Mary Magdalene’s daughter. She was considered of noble birth. A pilgrimage honoring Sarah takes place every May 24th in Les-Saintes-Maries-De-La-Mer.
