Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer – Ratis
The capital of Camargue in the South of France, located in the Rhone delta river.
The village is mentioned as Ra or Ratis in the 4th century AD. It takes its current name in reference to the three Marys arriving by boat after the crucifixion of Christ: Mary Magdalene, Mary Clopas and Mary Salome. According to the Gospels, these three women were close to Jesus.
