Red Egg

The legend states that after the crucifixion of Christ, Mary Magdalene went to Rome in order to meet with the Roman Emperor Tiberius Ceasar. She wanted to protest against Christ’s crucifixion and to tell the emperor about the resurrection. She also recounted the efforts being made to continue spreading the Gospels.

The emperor pointed at the egg and declared: “Christ is not more risen than this egg is red”. It is said that right after this statement, the egg turned red. Red eggs became an Easter tradition. In Greece they are placed next to the icons to ward off evil.
