Hypatia
A woman philosopher, astronomer and mathematician who lived in Alexandria, Egypt.
She was a prominent thinker and teacher. Hypatia died in 415 AD. She taught many Christian students and was well liked among both pagans and Christians but was killed by a mob of Christians for political reasons. She was stripped naked and killed with sharp oyster shells. Later she started to be seen as an icon for women’s rights.
